Auto Insurance Information

Bodily Injury:

This provides protection for you in case you negligently injure another person. We would recommend at least $100,000, more if you can afford it.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP):

Under the law, everyone is required to carry personal injury protection of $10,000. PIP pays 80 percent of your medical bills and 60 percent of lost earnings for injuries related to your accident. DO NOT get any deductibles on your PIP. If you choose a deductible, you are obligated to pay the medical bills even if the other driver is at fault.

Medical Pay:

Medical pay coverage pays the 20 percent of medical bills not covered by your PIP and will pay 100 percent of the medical bills if your PIP benefits run out. We would recommend at least $5,000 in medical pay coverage.

Property Damage:

This coverage on your auto insurance protects you in case you cause damage to another vehicle. A lot of insurance companies sell property damage in the amount of only $10,000. We would recommend at least $50,000. In today’s market there are a lot of expensive automobiles in the $30,000 to $50,000 range. Should you accidentally total another person’s vehicle and you only have $10,000 in coverage, you can be subject to a judgment.

Comprehensive and Collision:

This coverage provides protection for loss to your vehicle either through theft or collision. We recommend deductibles of $500 on these coverages.

Uninsured Motorist Coverage:

This coverage provides compensation to you should the other driver have no insurance or not enough liability coverage to pay you for your injuries. You can only obtain uninsured motorist coverage as high as your liability coverage. We would recommend at least $100,000 coverage. Also, if you insure more than one vehicle, your can request that your coverages be stacked or added together. For example, if you have $100,000 in uninsured motorist on two vehicles and they are stacked, the available coverage to you would be $200,000 in uninsured motorist coverage.
